Notes : Ra to the Rescue è uno degli album più rari del catalogo di Sun Ra. C'è un motivo, e non ha nulla a che fare con la qualità dei contenuti (o la loro mancanza).Quando Ra e il suo socio in affari Alton Abraham lanciarono la loro pionieristica etichetta indipendente Saturn a Chicago alla fine degli anni Cinquanta, e fino agli anni Sessanta, quando Ra si era ormai trasferito a New York, ogni nuovo album veniva accuratamente curato, intitolato, confezionato con una copertina stampata e illustrata e promosso con annuncie cataloghi. Negli anni Settanta, quando Ra e la sua band avevano sede a Filadelfia, questo processo cominciò a disfarsi.
Durante quel decennio e quello successivo, Ra pubblicò spesso album senza il coinvolgimento di Abraham (che era rimasto a Chicago).
Queste uscite - decine di titoli - erano spesso compilate in modo frettoloso, non corrispondenti alle tematiche, e pubblicate in generiche custodie bianche adornate con opere d'arte astratte fatte in casa, fotografie incollate e adesivi. Venivano stampati in quantità limitate e spediti alla Rounder Distribution per la vendita, con una piccola percentuale della stampa riservata al tavolo del merch ai concerti dell'Arkestra. In quest'ultimo periodo nasce Ra to the Rescue (RTTR, acronimo palindromo). Il disco adesso viene recuperato e reso disponibile da Modern Harmonic in edizione CD.
